The greatest activity of Basque whaling fishing took place in the 14th and 15th centuries.

We will know coastal villages that are off the mountain, the Hermitage of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, the village of Bermeo, Gernika, Getaria or cities such as Bilbao or San Sebastian. You will sleep in charming country houses and hotels and enjoy the gastronomy of the Basque Country.

Enjoy Basque culture and ancestral traditions linked to the world of whalers in a framework where Guiartu pampers the small details that make this route memorable.

The route of the whalers has a total of 204.9 km. that will be covered in 4 stages. The first is 63.1 km and goes from Bilbao to Bermeo. In this you can see the Naval Museum of Bilbao, the village of Plentzia, San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, the port of Bermeo and the arrantzale museum. He falls asleep in a country house.

The second stage is 48 km and runs from Bermeo to Lekeitio. After breakfast you visit the Aita Guria, a tuna that represents the way of life on board a Basque whaler. Dinner and rest in Lekeitio.

The third stage takes place between Lekeitio and Guetaria. It’s 46.4 km. along the Basque coast. In Mutriku and Deba the tourist will tour the center of the town accompanied by a local guide who will talk about their relationship with whalers. Dinner and accommodation in Guetaria.

The last stage has 47.4 km. Guetaria-Astigarraga. We tour this last section visiting Zarautz, Orio and Donostia. In the capital Guipuzcoana we visit the Untzi museoa and the historic center. From here we head to the Albaola factory where a whaling with the same techniques as 400 years ago is being reconstructed. The day ends in a cider house in Astigarraga. Travelers can relax in the same town.
