Nearby, pleasant and attractive route through the streets of the historic center of Vitoria-Gasteiz. A historical tour with recommendations and anecdotes. This city has become a reference point by recognizing it as EUROPEAN GREEN CAPITAL 2012 or WORLD GREEN CAPITAL in 2019. We will travel to the year of its foundation without forgetting the years of expansion and development in the twentieth century. The Celedón, the deck, the White Virgin and the White City, the murals and the green ring… I could tell you dozens of words, but I don’t want you to read them. I want you to live it, enjoy it and walk with me.
A walk through the Medieval Almond
We start at the foot of the monument to the Battle of Vitoria, in the heart of the city, the Plaza de la Virgen Blanca. We will approach the Plaza de España and climb to the balcony of San Miguel where the beginning of the city festivities takes place. After greeting our charming neighbor “El Celedón” we will direct our steps towards the Plaza del Machete and the Palace of Villa Suso.
Very close to the nevero of the city we will talk about the origins of Gasteiz, the small village that occupied the hill. Our continuous journey through the montehermoso palace until reaching the north of the medieval center, the Plaza de la Burullería surrounded by 15th and 16th century buildings. We are located next to the Old Cathedral or St. Mary,” a Unesco Heritage Site since 2005. We return again to the Plaza de la Virgen Blanca by one of the most famous streets of Vitoria-Gasteiz, the Street Herrería full of Renaissance palaces and protected by the Torre Doña Otxanda
