The Sensory Routes are a service for the inclusion of the collective of blind and visually impaired in the culture and history of Vitoria-Gasteiz. The walking itinerary through the historic center adapts perfectly to the needs of this public where the visual context disappears and we reinforce the descriptive story. We want to "understand" the city through its history. The one that its buildings and the characters who inhabited it tell us. We support the route on information maps printed in The Braille System, panels in some parts of the city and models of the most representative buildings. We have the support of volunteers and technicians from the O.N.C.E who have advised us to perfect the route. -

In 1976, events known as the March 3 massacre occurred in Vitoria-Gasteiz. In recent years, these terrible events that shook not only Vitoria but much of the state have been remembered more and more strongly. Worker mobilizations and society at large longed for better working conditions. The events occurred at five and 10 p.m. on March 3, 1976 when troops from the Miranda de Ebro Reserve Company and the Vitoria garrison of the Navy Police evicted from the church of San Francisco de Assisi in the Zaramaga neighborhood, a populous labor district located north of the city. 4,000 people on strike had gathered in assembly. Police threw tear gas into the church and fired live fire and rubber balls at people leaving the compound. Five people died and more than a hundred and fifty were injured. We will remember the victims and the wounded on a tour of the Zaramaga neighborhood. -
Vitoria-Gasteiz is the perfect set, its streets and buildings make the city an enviable set. On this route we want to link cinema to our passion for literature. Several are the books that speak of Vitoria-Gasteiz. Toti Martinez de Lecea describes the medieval city in his novel "The Street of the Jewish Quarter" where the Jews of the city were recessed in the fifteenth century. In this book a building stands out above the others, the house of the Cordon of the fifteenth century. In "Under the Shadow of the Temple" the author brings us closer to the Cathedral of Santa Maria or "the old one", the name used by the Vitorians. And very close appears the Square of the White Virgin, the Arquillos or the Plaza del Machete environments related to the trilogy of Eva García Sáenz de Urturi: "The silence of the white city", "The rites of the water" and the "Lords of time". We will travel through time by the hand of the book "Crazy Who Don't Seem So Much" by Julio Corral San Román and "El sacamantecas" by Jesús Del Val that tells us about the darkest story of Vitoria with characters such as the Sacmantecas of the early nineteenth century or the settings of Alvaro Arbina's novel "The Woman of the Clock" that takes us to the war of Independence against Napoleon.
